Transfer Accounts vs. Data-Connected Accounts
Anatomy lets you link outside bank accounts in two different ways, and they do different jobs. A data-connected account lets Anatomy see an account's activity so you can reconcile. A transfer partner account lets you move money between that account and your Anatomy bank account.
Connecting an account for data does not let you send or receive transfers with it. If you need to move money, the account must be set up as a transfer partner account by an Authorized Signer.

A data-connected account brings an outside account's activity into Anatomy so your team can reconcile in one place. It is read-only: Anatomy pulls the data but cannot move funds.
What it does
- Shows line-item transaction data from the connected account alongside your other accounts
- Lets you see deposits across all of your accounts, not just your Anatomy bank account
- Supports reconciliation, so you can match payments and deposits without switching between bank portals
Who can set it up: Admins and Super Admins.
How to set it up
- Sign in to Anatomy as an Admin or Super Admin.
- Go to the area for connected accounts and choose to connect an account for data.
- Sign in to the outside bank through the secure connection prompt and select the account(s) to link.
- Confirm. Transaction data will begin to appear for reconciliation.
A transfer partner account is an outside account approved to send money to, or receive money from, your Anatomy bank account. You need one before you can move funds.
What it does
- Lets you transfer funds between your Anatomy bank account and the linked outside account
- Is required for any money movement, even if the same account is already connected for data
Who can set it up: Authorized Signers only. These are the people who created (opened) the Anatomy bank account. Admins and Super Admins cannot add a transfer partner account unless they are also Authorized Signers.
How to set it up
- Sign in to Anatomy as an Authorized Signer.
- Go to the area for transfer accounts and choose to add a transfer partner account.
- Enter or link the outside account details and complete any verification steps.
- Once approved, the account appears as an option when you start a transfer.
Each type is controlled by a different permission, so you limit them in different places.
To limit who can connect accounts for data: change user roles. Only Admins and Super Admins can connect accounts, so a Super Admin can move a user to a lower role (for example, Member) to remove that ability.
To limit who can set up transfer partner accounts: change your Authorized Signers. Only Authorized Signers can add transfer accounts, and user roles do not affect this. To add or remove an Authorized Signer, contact Anatomy Support.
Tip: giving someone Admin or Super Admin access does not let them move money. Removing someone's Admin role does not remove their Authorized Signer status.
Frequently asked questionsI connected my account, so why can't I send a transfer to it? Connecting for data only lets Anatomy see the account. An Authorized Signer must also add it as a transfer partner account.
I'm a Super Admin. Why can't I add a transfer account? Transfer accounts are controlled by Authorized Signer status, not user role. Ask an Authorized Signer to add it, or contact Anatomy Support about being added as a signer.
Can the same outside account be both? Yes. Many practices connect an account for data (to reconcile) and also add it as a transfer partner (to move money). The two setups are separate and each must be done on its own.
Who are our Authorized Signers? The people who opened your Anatomy bank account. If you're unsure, contact Anatomy Support.
